A good game trailer can be more than just an ad or promo for an upcoming product. When they're done well, they can excite, entertain, and even get you emotionally invested in a game. Sure, sometimes the game isn't nearly as good as the trailer builds it up to be and for the most part these are just commercial advertising that's convincing us to buy something, but that doesn't need to detract from the entertainment the video provides.
With that being said, let's share our favorite trailers in this thread!
Let me lay down a few ground rules first:
- Try to stay on topic! I know some of these videos may remind of you of games you thought would be great but wound up hating - and let's be honest, I'm probably going to post that oddly endearing FFXIII International trailer at some point - but we're not here to talk about the games. We're talking about the trailers! Obviously there's nothing wrong with mentioning if the game did or did not live up to your standards, but if you really want to discuss a specific game, open up a new thread. That's what Off-Topic is for!
- Please don't put too many trailers in each post. If you have an abundance of favorite trailers I recommend you post just a few up front and then go take a walk. Come on back later, check out what everybody else has posted, and then share some more. If you absolutely have to post a bunch of videos at once, please use the spoiler box tag when you can.
- Commercials are also okay! Not sure if I have to mention this, but I figured I would just in case.
- I think that's pretty much it! Have fun!
To start, I'm going to share a favorite that I'm sure a lot of you have enjoyed: The Legend of Zelda E3 2004 trailer.
This trailer came at the very end of what had been a relatively strong E3 press conference for Nintendo. No word had come out about the next Zelda game, and suddenly Nintendo was playing showing us footage of a gorgeous, action-packed new Zelda game scheduled for the Gamecube. (As history would show, the game had some hiccups before finally landing on the Gamecube two years later.) I remember sitting at my computer in my college dorm room and watching the E3 presser with my roommate. We were both floored by the trailer. This trailer (and the following year's Zelda trailer, which picks up right where this one left off) are both entertaining in their own right, and when I'm in for a nostalgia trip I'll watch them from time to time.
Okay, people: time for you to share!
