The minutes felt like hours and the hours felt like days to Matt who found a spot to settle in the shelter after several hours. With Evans asleep in his arms as he sat on an empty rugged bed an old woman took notice of him. The woman stared at him, “Young boy, don’t you think that that bed already belongs to someone else?” Matt looked rather worried and didn’t want to cause any trouble, “I-I-I-I-I’m sorry ma’am, I’ll leave at once.” The elderly woman smiled at Matt, “There is no need, people come on ago around like they also had since the beginning of time.” Matt looked relieved and sat back down. “No tell me, what is young 20-year-old boy like you going around with a baby and military gears?” said the old woman. Matt sighed, “It’s a long story.” The old woman smiled, “I love stories that are long so do tell.”
Matt set Evans down on the bed and turns his attention to the old woman, “Many calls me Matt but my real name is Yellow Cypher……….” “You’re the boy who killed 20 people when you were young aren’t you?” the woman replied. Matt only responds with a nod. The old woman smiles, “Well son that was nothing but only a part of your past. What matters most is the present and future. My name is Agatha and I believe that everyone always have a second chance to redeem their sins.” Matt turns his attention from Agatha to Evans who remains asleep, “It’s not my past the haunts me Agatha, it’s those that I caused harm to that haunts me.” The old woman laid her right hand on Matt’s left shoulder, “So why don’t tell me that story of yours on how you ended up here Yellow?”
“It all happened so fast but it already felt like weeks since it began. My mother just woke up me and my friends that were sleeping over for a party that never happened because of the blackout. We were rushed to the car and to the base where my father was located, no one knew what was going on and my parents wouldn’t tell me. Even in the safety of the military’s presence, we were never safe from the attack that came from the skies. We evacuated from the base but my father and stood behind, he’s most likely dead. Hoping to make a shortcut through the city to the other side to the refugee camp we were attacked by the aliens. My friend’s mother was killed and my girlfriend was stuck in the vehicle we drove into the city with. The soldier protecting us, Uzel Lackey, led us to a tower to find a group of marines ready to leave the city. The Lieutenant there allowed us to be evacuated with his men and so we left the city. However, alien fighters brought down the aircraft I was in along with another one. A soldier saved me from fall and after the landing I took his gear. The other aircrafts left so I decided to go to my girlfriend only to found out that she wasn’t there. After resting for several hours I began traversing through the city along the riverside, this is where I found a woman in some rubbles. She gave me her unnamed son before the rubbles collapsed on her. With the baby in my arms and the son setting, I found three female soldiers. I know that one of them is from my past but thanks to the other two I was allowed to enter.”
The old woman smiled, “An interesting story Yellow, but what I found most interesting is that you are calling the invaders aliens.” Matt looked rather puzzled, “Is there a proper name for them?” Agatha stood up and began to pace in back-n-forth in front of Matt, “They are called the Proelio, but I cannot tell you anymore other than that.” Matt turned around to pat Evans, “And why is that?” Agatha stopped pacing, “You are bound by fate Yellow; your answer lies under the city itself. There is a history about these planets that you do not know that existed long before the human and Fictus colonization.” Matt still had his attention on Evans, “Stop calling me Yellow and what do you mean by fate.” Agatha whispered, “Find the relic cite and you’ll find your answer.” Matt turned his attention to Agatha with his eyes closed, “What relic cite?” As soon as Matt opened his eyes Agatha was gone from sight and the female soldier from earlier named Rabbi was standing by the hallway entrance of the room. Rabbi looked confused, “Who the hell where you talking to?”
Matt felt nervous, embarrassed, and confused, “I-I-I-I-I-I………….wasn’t there an old woman here?” Rabbi still looks confused, “No, you were just here all alone talking to yourself.” Matt began to search around the corridor, “I swear there was an old woman named Agatha right here talking to me.” Rabbi began to look rather worried as if she was wondering if Matt was a psycho, “Yellow, there’s no woman in the city register with the name Agatha.” Matt began to run his thoughts in his mind, “Find the relic cite and you’ll find your answer.” Rabbi began to look very worried, “Something wrong?” Matt had a scared expression on his face, “Is there some sort of record room in this base?” “Yes and why?” Rabbi replied. “I’ll explain later but take me to the room first!” Matt answered. Rabbi nodded and Matt picked up Evans.
Matt and Rabbi rushed through the crowded refugee base, making some refugee angry after stepping on their foot or bumping into them. The two finally came to a door that was all alone and away from the crowd of refugees. Rabbi quickly opened the door and Matt instantly ran inside. After looking around at the immensely large room that appears to be a library, Matt hands Evans to Rabbi and began to search through the records, throwing each record out after reading the cover name. Rabbi still had a confused expression on her face, “What are you exactly looking for?” Matt turned his attention to Rabbi, “I’m looking for an answer.” “An answer to exactly what?” Rabbi asked. Matt resumes searching through the records and folders, “I think it has to do with something me and my friends found out a few weeks back but we were never able to discuss about it because of the blackout two days ago.”
Matt pulled out a folder titled “A Ghost From the Past” and opened it. Skipping through papers in it, Matt finds an old rugged drawing of an old woman that looks like Agatha and began to read the following text:
"Ever since the city was built in 3205 there had been sightings of an old woman under the name of Agatha. Even before the city was built, the early settlers of the planet had reported seeing the old woman in the area of what would soon be the city of New Heights. It has been told that whenever the old woman appeared something terribly will happen to the one she speaks to. People began to claim that she is a ghost, some claims that she was the devil, but no one knows.”
-Further down the page-
“The Ghost of Agatha continues to haunt more and more people, driving them into madness. However, there are reports from several sources that she’s trying to deliver some sort of message but no one understands her gibberish language.”
-Next page-
“The Ghost of Agatha began to reveal things that those who she haunts couldn’t believe what they saw. Rocks and trees turning into hollow structures for a home, objects disappearing and leading to a cave or hole. Researchers would not believe this as they claim that the civilians where just paranoid and where unfit for colonizing the area.”
-Further down the page there was a photo of some sort of room that was not man or Fictus made-
“We stumbled upon something that would forever change man and Fictus kind. It must be kept a secret at all cost, even from the higher ranks. If anyone had the ability to find the answer and truth to every question he or she could ever ask, there would only be nothing but a galactic chaos.”
The base began to shake violently from a quake and tossed Matt and Rabbi around. Matt got up and turned around to Rabbi, “That was no ordinary earthquake.”
