I've never really played the series, but my understanding is that the last Mortal Kombat game was a reboot of the series and was essentially retelling the events of the first Mortal Kombat but in a new timeline. Is there any sign that this game is going to be a retelling of the second Mortal Kombat? Like, doesn't Sub-Zero get killed and replaced by his brother or something in one of the games? Is this trailer showing the death of the first Sub-Zero?

That's a really good and intriguing question but I'm not enough of a fan to know the answer to that, although I'd like to know it as well.

That trailer has me feeling indifferent about the game. I don't think the music choice fits the game at all (please bring back that 90s techno/pop-ish stuff back).

The other thing that bothered me a bit was the way they did the animation. I can't quite pin what it is, but it seemed a little cheesy.

May have to do with how they wanted to make it cinematic yet at the same time, similar to the game. It just bugs me that captain ice man takes all this damage and shrugs it off like it never happened. And then he died, the end.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure even a super-powered dude like Sub-Zero shouldn't be jumping around and fighting after having his arm broken and his kneecap shattered.

MK9 retold the first three, and changed some of the events of the first three games too. For example:

The Original Sub Zero still dies in MK9 (and comes back as Noob Sabiot) however the second Sub-Zero is turned into a robot in place of Smoke due to some time travel shenanigans.
