Nothing that quite scratches the same itch, sadly.

Monster Hunter comes close, but I've run out of goals in 3U and 4 isn't til next year. It doesn't have crawling through hordes of monsters, is lacking in story (compared to the original PSO at least), but it has the exact kind of combat I like, piles of (very bloody) loot, etc.

It's not PSO, but Hyrule Warriors is scratching my itch superbly.

Hyrule warriors is very good. I would say it's more like a Musuo game that has a number of elements that entice those who would otherwise not get into a Musuo game. Most notably, actual Bosses that require 3D Zelda-like strategies in order to defeat and Generals who have the same in order to defeat them a lot more quickly (or deal with much longer battles against their strong defense). Battling the bigger guys feels like it uses a combination of OOT/Twilight Princess/Wind Waker elements.

The adventure mode is probably my favorite post-game mode of the bunch. And they are releasing a lot more of that in the DLC packs. Given that adventure mode does have an online assist aspect, I should add more friends that are playing this game. My NNID is the same as my user name here.

Yeah, but just be ready to get your ass kicked a lot before you get a handle on the game.
