Help with ad-hoc wireless setup for Vita?

I am an avid PC PSO2 player and I recently found my Vita again. I have AWS working with PuTTY and ProxyCap along with Hotspot Shield for when I can't use that. (Although obviously I prefer not to use HS. But it works.)

I heard that some people were able to play on Vita again by setting up a virtual router with their VPNs on and connecting on their Vita, however everytime I try that the vita "Could not connect to the access point within the time limit."

Am I doing something wrong or are there any tips anyone could give me?
