People piss and bitch about pso1 too, thats probably just nostalgia speaking. (like saying everything is instanced and u feel like u r playing a party game online instead of mmo)

People will piss and bitch about anything. That's closest thing to universal truth.

When a game is perfect, people will complain that it is too perfect. =p

and I will be around to piss and bitch about people pissing and bitching =D

In general I focus on problems, because when there are no problems left then it should be perfection, or close to.
Of course, it's difficult if not impossible to reach perfection. There will always be issues of some kind.

I never got to play PSO1 online, but I must have liked offline somewhat, because I solo'd up to Ultimate.
PSO2 has some pretty significant issues that SEGA doesn't seem willing to address. Or is just too slow at doing so.
As Z-0 said elsewhere, it's probably because they're apparently focusing more on the social aspect instead of the game.
Encouraging everyone to do the same single thing at the same time is probably a part of that.

I actually spent less hours on PSO1 than PSU or PSO2. I think I reached 1000ish on PSOBB, got bored because there wasn't much endgame customization and left.

Skill trees and GAS actually motivated me to stick around and try out new things even after capping.

Do you do the XH urban city and mother ship EQs with a 250% rdr?

    Should drop there

I got several BHS Lv17 doing random EQs. Hell, I think I even found in in Kuron EQ. :V

Only thing he likes is his characters.
In general, he doesn't like overcomplicated stuff, like the grinding, affixing, trading, etc.
He just wants to, you know, play the game. Sorting, tekking, recycling, reporting, are all a pain up the ass.
I think he also complained about the Casino games being there for incentive and not for fun.

In my case, I like my characters, and I like boss fights. Small group challenging boss fights, not multi insta-kill boss fights.
I like Black Nyack, except that I could play Blackjack anywhere else. In fact, I was playing it in Yakuza 5 the other day. Not as cute, though.
TD3 is nice when it goes well. Challenge would be nice if we had more of it, and if people didn't suck so much.
I also enjoy soloing Naberius 2 TA. Several exciting boss fights there, ending with still one of the most enjoyable soloable boss fights, Ragne.
By the way, weight/wait switches are boring as hell when soloing.

The thing is, SEGA usually takes a year to add things like Tower Defense, Challenge or Time Attack. Extreme Quest isn't bad, and that barely gets updated too.
And when they do update these things, it's almost always one single thing at a time. And it's always more about the incentives than the actual act of playing.
On top of this, they schedule events and boosts to ensure everyone does the exact same thing at the exact time.
All of this ensures that people get burned out super quickly. Too much dripfeed and random chance. Not enough variation and choice.

Imagine if PSO2 allowed players to explore worlds, try various Tower Defense maps, and many more variations of Challenge Quest, whenever we want.
Hard to imagine people getting sick of that quickly, right?
Right now, we have to wait around and hope for random EQs, or scheduled EQs. Or farm boring crap.
We only have two Challenge Quests. Everyone was already sick of the first one by the time we got the second, which is much shorter.
I'm sure people will be sick to death of the current two by the time we get a third, if they aren't already.

A JP friend who played and loved PSO1 recently reminded me that PSO1 only had 4 person parties.
Makes me wonder if PSO2 would be better if they focused more on 4 person content instead of multi-party clusterf**k mess.
12 people flattening stuff instantly isn't fun. Random people playing like shit and ruining the game isn't fun.
Pretty certain those problems are less likely to occur with 4 person content.
I completely agree with everything said here. I left PSO2 back in June for pretty much the same reasons on top of saying it's pretty much a dress-up sim with decent combat. But eventually came back to it because there aren't many games like it on the market that you can kind of really get into, quit for a while then come back and get right back into. I love the character design but I too agree that there should be some kind of legit planet exploration mode AND a better story mode. (I HATE the matterboards)

I was just saying this earlier comparing the games atmosphere to that of PSO1 which had a certain feeling of impending doom. The game and the story itself just felt so mysterious and was pretty dark. (seriously, go back and read Flowen's messages in Episode 2.) I miss it. I understand that these are two different games only pretty much connected by the name itself but I'm really hoping that it eventually connects somehow with PSO1.

PSU AotI was pretty grim. The Guardians ship crashed, named NPCs actually died when they were killed. Laia went emo and all.

PSO2 started off like a Saturday morning cartoon but it's slowly evolving too I think.

My main gripe is why they went with a Chosen One story for an MMO. How can everyone you play with be a time traveller with a Hentai Kamen stalker?

You're supposed to pretend every other player is a normie.

That was a quote from a thread earlier when we got on the topic of PSO and PSO2. This is what I intended to say but had worded my statement incorrectly. I completely agree with the the quote above. Hopefully it does get a bit more serious. I remember really starting to get into the story of AOTI when that expansion came out but hated the original story of PSU. Not asking for a game full of emos and angsty shonen anime tropes...just a more adult story. Hopefully that's the direction they're going.

When you really think about it having any sort of story in an online game involving the player character regularly interacting with the world, and the world having any sort of changes is going to have issues with the consistency between the story and the multiplayer aspect.

I think it's a necessary evil of having a remotely interesting story in a multiplayer game that isn't designed specifically around the co-op story.

Eugh, don't use the term "adult" like that.
