S-Ranking gives more drops, not scoring first in the EQ, if you are first and only one tower is standing you get the bottom line drops.

I don't know about you, but most of the games I play you can actually lose. Honestly... I don't know how much longer I'll keep playing this game, if ultimate bosses like [Profound Darkness] can be effortlessly defeated by an unorganized group in 5 minutes flat.

I just... It's not DIFFICULT, Sega. It's not HARD to make something a challenge. People aren't going to riot if failure can actually happen.

But that ain't how F2P works. We all knew this is how the game would be when it was announce to be F2P (well, at least anyone with any sentience and who pays attention to business model trends). They just want to make the game a massive time (or money, you choose) sink.
