The knee-jerk reactions are strong.
I dunno. I'll have at least one character with this. Personally, I don't mind the aesthetics of it too much, though I'm not impressed by the dog one not being on the ground when it runs.

I feel like the only way to do a real summoner class is to only have the summons come in and do one massive attack, then leave. So far, the only real action game I've seen that did Summoner well was Hyrule Warriors, where Lana would summon monsters to do one massive attack on the field after a lengthy summon animation, and her entire attack style consisted of weaving these animations together while using the summon attacks to protect her.
So far, every MMO class I've seen with the name "Summoner" has been a huge disappointment. Summoners are cool because they summon sea serpents, dragons, and ancient gods to perform their strongest attacks. If you throw a tamagochi on a pop idol's conductor, that's not nearly enough to compare with summoning a world serpent to breath nuclear fire at your enemies.
Oh, and FFXIV's summoner was just as disappointing. Summoning a human sized gust of wind that shoots air at people every couple of seconds is nothing like how summons have been handled for the last 20 years.
i see people bitching about the cute look but isnt that the thing in japan? i mean even most of the costumes and shit are all about being a cute girl
That just makes them a glorified attack though. :/ Like I understand the sentiment of wanting summons to be more impressive, but I personally feel they should be more to a summon than just showing up doing one attack and leaving. PBs already fill that niche anyway, and for all we know, summoners might get a bunch of PB related skills.
They should be a bit like the Mecromancer from BL2 that fights along side you and not do the fighting for you.
A LOT of online games go that route with summons or minions. Which is why so many people (myself included) are disappointed they didn't. But... there's always the possibility that they might work like Golems and Marionettes in Mabi and be directly controllable OR have an AI option. The thing is, if you require the baton to have them out at all, what else would you even do? Hopefully it's a tech class that's actually competent at techs. :/
I prefer Beasts from PSU over Summoners but lets wait and see how this class does
why couldnt they make a class with whip and slicer. Been slicer r-atk and whip t-atk still im curios to see how this class is plays
Would be funny if the pets end up being just the weapon, itself, so changing weapons = changing pets. (I don't know how Summoner worked in past PS games, though.)
