Yep, this is pretty much solely to keep the whales appeased after they've spent hundreds and not gotten a single thing they want. A freemium player won't even be able to hit 40 items within the scratch period.. more like 15 scratches at most, not counting the SGs awarded from bingo/etc.
So 40SG items for 1 item what you want? How much AC would it cost to "buy" 40SG items?

Well it's still end up more pricey just because of the fact of it's horrible %, and untradeable so you can't just sell stuff you don't want and use the money to get stuff you want from the other.
1 SG = 5 AC with no bonus
40 SG items = 40x80 = 3200 SG = 16000 AC
With bonus SG for purchasing in bulk it should be around 11k AC I think, don't really remember.
