It sets up the prescient. I never said it was important. In fact because the anime is so unimportant to the plot of episode 4 is why I said that's how I would want it to be. Basically I want it to be related, but not so important that you HAVE to read it to know what's going on later.

Matoi is Claris Claes II, the newman is the original Melphonsia.

The Melphonsia we see in game is just her younger sister, who takes her name when she dies prior to the start of Episode 1.

Matoi as Claris Claes II has always been my favourite version of Matoi in both appearance and personality. I'm well aware that the CCII outfit is a slightly altered version of PSO's Red Ringo's outfit but I always thought it looked better on Matoi due to how plain looking Red Ringo is while Matoi's more "magical" looking hair fits the outfit better.

Judging by Luther and Double appearing in the concept art of the mangaka's Twitter, I'm guessing Apprentice's attack on an ARKS ship will be covered since those two played a huge part in that event (Luther opening the way for Apprentice to wreck havoc and Double having killed the OG Melfonsina during the attack).
