Hello everyone. I've been an avid follower of the theory that Beat Times are directly related to the appearance of Rare enemies. The number of coincidences I've seen have convinced me that the theory strikes true. I've wanted to contribute Beat Times of my own to the cause, but not many have been achieved so far by me. But thanks to a new revelation and possible advancement in the study, I'd like to take it a step further.

Hakai started a Thread of his own about the Forest Hildetorr Beat times. Stating that his Oran had found two Hildetorrs back-to-back in the ultimate Forest during or about @666 (Figures, the "Beat Time of the Beast" ), I was delighted for my Oran, since my Syncesta hunting would now be much easier. However, my online friend (Known as Foxx) had an idea. As I was telling & showing him this information on Trillian/MSN Messenger, he was also playing the game with his character at the moment, a Purplenum. His beat time was quite fortunate at the time, about 641. So he figured, what the hell.

He used that same character to Enter the Forest of Sorrow, and wait it out. And sure enough, @665 (Neighbor of the Beast ), he landed a Hildetorr! Didn't give up squat tho. It owes him a Frozen Shooter

But this single piece of data suggests something crucial: That perhaps the beat times have nothing to do with character or ID. Might they be universal?

Some things are uncertain, however. Difficulty setting might still be a factor. Plus, my friend also had the idea that perhaps there might be a set of Rare Beat Times for half the IDs, while another set exists for the other half, kinda like only half the IDs can grow their mags a certain way and the other half makes them different. If this is true, one thing's for sure: ORANS & PURPLENUMS likely share the same times, at least for Forest Hildetorr.

So, here's what I need everyone to do. Any Beat Times that you've submitted to another thread, find them, copy them, and repost them here. The idea isn't just to collect more beat times, but to gather enough to make testing the new theories easier. The idea is to:

#1. Repeatedly test various beat times on different difficulties. Got a Beat time for that Nar Lily in VH Caves? Try looking for a Mil Lily then at the same time in Ultimate.

#2. Repeatedly test the Beat Times for the same enemy on different IDs. Foxx has already shown one success from one ID to another. How many more use the same time? Only certain IDs, or are they (hopefully) universal?

Once I gather enough Beat Times, and have tested a substantial amount through quests, I'll likely start a Guide of some sort, since someone should start keeping track of this stuff. Anyone who contributes will be credited for, since simply finding & copying the Beat findings off of other people's posts myself is too much for me, plus I don't want to take credit for someone else's work. This is a group effort, one that will help us all.

So far, we've been gathering a good lot of Forest Hildetorr Beat times, and even some Pal Rappy ones. What we can use next are more of the Caves Rare enemies, and anything in the Temple.

I haven't a decent E-mail for others to send their findings to me, as mine has recently been plagued by porn . Once I set up another account, I'll have a place for you to send it as well. For now, just post any findings you find here.

I need data on these findings

    Primary: Enemy/Beat Time
    Secondary: Difficulty/ID

The Difficulty and ID are only secondary to me for the time, because even though they may still play a part in this, I encourage all to try out ANY Beat times we find for the corresponding monster found under that time, regardless of the difficulty or ID scenario.

My best bet is to single out a certain Beat time at a time. Pick one out of what you may see here, and what you may discover yourself. Also gain access to a quest with the maximum amount of regular enemies that have a Rare variant (Example-Fake in Yellow/Forest of Sorrow/Waterfall Tears). Now, play the game as usual until the Beat time starts creeping up. Now enter the correct quest for the enemy. Leave yourself at the very least 20 beats before the designated time to start the quest, get to the best position, and get ready. I recommend that you start piping at least 5-10 beats before the actual time and keep piping for the same length of time afterwards, since it's also apparent that you don't have to be on the exact beat. Rather, a radius of beats is the opportunity, like when I found Hildetorrs at @138 & @140. Surely, @139 is also part of the time. Call them "Rare Shifts". The more Beat times we find surrounding a time, the larger and better understood a Rare Shift can officially become. Any confirmations are extremely welcome as well.

Here's a few I discovered myself, and also some of others I already jotted down. If you recognize some of these Beat Times as ones you discovered, please don't hesitate to let it be known here. Like I said, you made the discovery and I can't do this without people like you getting involved. Here's to supporting the success of the Rare Hunters community and the research of Rare Shifts. Foxx and I thank you for your support.

Yeah, I realized earlier that the pattern probably doesn't work. It was a long shot anyway, just a side interest. At least now that that's out of the way, we can concentrate on the real thing here. Anyone got more times to contribute to the study?

I don't have any times yet, but I'm making plans to go after a Temple Hildetorr and more Pal Rappies with my Skyly soon. I'll take note of the times and let you know.

Thanx for your support, we need more Temple times. I'm working on more myself.

    Hi.
I have made a thread before on a similar subject before - that beat times affect rare item drops, and for the last month or so I have been noting down the locations, beat times and difficulties of my rare finds - items AND enemies. My list is pretty long and there are one or two patterns emerging!

I will submit my list soon.

Oh yea. I found my first Hildetor 2 days ago - at 668! Pretty damn close!

    Update-

It appears that the Greenill time for Forest Hildetorrs @346 is indeed is compatible with Purplenum: Foxx tried the time, and caught a Hildetorr at @340. I think it's safe to say that a we've just made a major Rare Shift, approximately @340-346. This also further contributes the idea of universal Beat Times as the Purplenum character we've tested has found the Torrs using times originally recorded with Orans and now Greenills.

    Keep em' coming!

I'll also be contributing a set of data as soon as I can confirm it one more time.

Last night, in the span of 5 beats, and while doing the Addicting Food quest on VHard, I found a Pouilly Slime and 2 Nar Lillies each after 1 pipe.

Wow, really? That's quite a feat there. Your info would be a great contribution. It would be awesome to compare info, and I'm sure we'll see many similarities.

Also, you've been recording Rare drop beats? Not just common Rares, REAL Rares, I take it? The idea's always been up in the sky, believable indeed, just harder to track than Rare Monsters themselves. This would be awesome, and we'd be willing to track down any beat times as well in case we come across something really good and out of the blue. This would explain why it's hella hard for me to get that Ruby Bullet from Vol Opt v2, and yet why I once found Belra's Right Arm & Red Mechgun almost back to back! Also from what I understand, AddSlots should also count. I absolutely believe that their appearances are effected by the beat times, and beat times for AddSlots would be a great help to any stranded offline like me and Foxx.

Also, your Hildetorr Beat Time has been acknowledged and been used to expand a Rare Shift up in my initial post to make it twice as wide. Thanx man, very helpful. This could be just the beginning, everyone.
