PSO will work with a cable modem but you'll need a few things (dc broadband adapter, broadband passport, hub/switch/router). Try looking in the tech support forum on PSO World, that's where I got my info. As for dial-up access, you can use any ISP. I'm not sure if AOL will work though.

I heard that you can play for free if you go through some trouble with a broadband - some person had a link to it...

one way is with the broadband adapter (which i heard was annoying to get working) or you can run a dreamcast server. it's what i use. the dreamcast windows server isnt as fast as using a broadband adapter directly, but you still won't notice any lag.

Does the server get call charges and does it work in the UK?

This makes me wish two things...

One: i could use the broadband stuff and so on on the DC for unlimited play on PSO

Two: The Uk didn't have so much crippling in the tellecomunications way so we COULD have that...

There are no call charges for the server. Many people have had trouble getting this to work. If you get a broadband adapter and burn the japanese disk it is simple to set up. With my broadband provider (Charter Communications) a router is not necessary.
