Will buying this adapter let me use a USB keyboard with my X

Hey everyone, and thanks for your time.

My PSOX problem is that my roommate works really early in the morning, so I have to keep things quiet after 9:00 PM or so, which is when I can usually play PSO. This means no voice chat most of the time. I was looking at this USB adapter to solve my problems. If I plugged this into my Xbox, could I simply plug in any USB keyboard and type away on PSO? Or would I need a mod chip and Linux or some crazy stuff like that too?

There is an official adapter from microsoft, it's a usb adapter that fits into one of the expansion slots from the controller. I have it, haven't actually used it, but it allows you to use a usb keyboard with PSO.
