CS laggy? on my semi new laptop?

i dont feel like giving everything in detail now, but my brother and i want to start a mini LAN thingy at our house. we got a new router, set the 3 comps up etc etc. it seems like my 1.1 Ghz laptop is messing up again. whenever i play it will run smoothly for a second, then slow down for a second, repeat. ive tried shutting down all running programs, changing the video settings, screen size. to be blunt, nothing works. any suggestions?

It's a laptop; odds are the video card you have isn't that good (not many for laptops are).

Are you running in software mode? That might be a problem.

ok, here are the stats.

240MB RAM
Trident(crappy?)16MB vid card
1.1 Ghz processor
Netgear 4 Comp router

the odd thing is, is that ive been able to play with my brother like this before. i had a 7 comp router, and same stats on both of the comps.

ive tried running it on software, small box, etc. its still acting smelly.

Have you updated your video cards drivers? Do you have directX 8? hmm...Does your card allow for open GL or direct 3D? if so I'd use one of those 2. If this doens't help in any way talk to me on AIM. Or post more stuff on here.
