Help!! Keyboard Problems

Ok, after waiting for longer than i can remember i can finally play this game and i run into problems straight away.

In the options menu, where i enter my user id i CANNOT type. I can press enter and browse the menu but i can't enter any letters atall.

What's going on!

I'm in the uk but i tried changing reigonal/keyboard settings or maybe i'm doing it wrong or it's something totally different?
