Hello, this is my first topic, and sorry if this has been posted before. PSU is looking really good but there's one thing that they didn't mention or I failed to have seen in the info about it. Will they allow us to have online characters with the same names as others? One of the best things I liked about PSO was not having to worry about if someone took a name that I wanted. Any info about the name system yet?

I haven't seen any information released on the naming system yet. I kind of doubt that Sonic Team will restrict names like that.

Sorry.I wasn't exactly sure where to start it. I saw a topic about PSU in the other one so I thought it would be ok.
That's a good question... I hope they don't put on any restrictions... I don't really think that ST is too worried about that issue... But maybe... After all, they did switch to server-side saving... Does BB restrict duplicate names? If not then I think it would be safe to bet PSU would be the same way...
BB JP at least doesn't restrict duplicates. I doubt US does either. Not restricting duplicates is the way to go, I think anyway. The use of IDs as a way to identify the "real" user works as well as it needs to, and stops the FFXI or UO growth of "Cloud X921"'s running around.
Not saying that those games are filled with such people, just that not having name restrictions based on usage causes those types of "originality" to dissipate.

I guess all of our characters will be saved on a server under our registered accounts, so you should be able to have the same name as someone else. Its not like each individual character is going to be thrown into one big folder on ST's hardrive, next to their hedgehog porn....
Like usual, I'll start with the name 'Sef'... And I'm sure we'll see some Sephiroths. Maybe even a Sefiroth.
And I'm sure I'll get confused with them. Ah well. ;o
Blizzard stops duplicate names on their servers in Diablo 2 and World of Warcraft, even though you have a master account. Yes, I would like duplicate names stopped, it's a bad thing. Imagine someone with the same name as you running around being a jerk. You have to pay for that persons crimes.

And what if section ID's are implemented in PSU, you can't have name restrictions if you are trying to get a certain ID.
