how does the new pm sys' work?

I remember back in the day you could simply just click on the pm read it and it would be marked as read... now it seems it wont stop bugging me about it until its deleted, anyway to mark it as read other than deletion? Or maybe this is some sign :/

Nothing has changed with that any pm you read is placed as read. I just read about 6 pm's myself and it works perfectly fine nor have I ever recieved this complaint from anyone else.
