If you want to get an idea of what I'm talking about, try opening the installer for commercial software requiring a CD key or license in a Hex Editor, find the segment of code that receives the CD key and verifies its correctness, then reverse-engineer that to write a new program that creates a new CD key that will work. The same kinds of people that habitually do this sort of thing as a hobby are responsible for the creation of l33tsp33k. When you are to the point that this sort of ability is elementary and otherwise trivial to you, then you will be justified in accusing these people of being illiterate.

Just remember that there is a vast difference between using l33tsp33k and not demonstrating the ability to spell.

That's not l33tsp33k, dude. That's internet shorthand, and it is a terrible bane to everyone that understands that on the internet, your intelligence will be gauged by your ability to spell correctly and string words together cleverly. In regards to that, you are entirely correct. No one with any sort of attention to detail would permit themselves to communicate in that fashion. It is not, however, to be confused with l33tsp33k.
