Generally I use fire and ice right now to be honest. Main reason I was looking at photon flare and the ignition was I wanted to have burst phases on my fights.

I never found much milage out of lightining techs unless I have the PP to abuse stacks.

Id say dont get photon flare, personally I dont like it and I havent seen anyone in the community try to stick up for it either... I like freeze personally i think it is a great aid in battle by stopping enemies even if its for a just a second, there's more to it than it just being broken immediately. Its a shallow argument because there's a lot of situation and nuance that the broken immediately argument doesn't address. I don't want to get caught up on defending freeze tho. Bottom line for you should be : "Do you like freezing enemies"? Do you find it helpful and do you want it to happen more often? That should be your criteria for putting points into freeze boost. Freeze ignition is difficult to use but I have the opportunity to use it pretty often in parties because barta means that you can hit enemies that are close to you and far away from every one else, meaning that if one in front of you gets frozen you can immediately take it out.
