Sad times. May those who lost their lives rest in peace.

Actually, of the 7 'nauts that were on the shuttle, I think it was 4 of thems first time. Also first Isreali.

What I heard was that when the shuttle launchedon Jan 16, part of the left wing got hit by the external fuel tank. Maybe they should have issued hazard warning right then.

And only three out of four crews had gone out to space before probabaly did not help much either.

My condolence to the crews and their families.

    my condolences to the relatives...

but they all knew the work they did was risky and they got paid accordingly. plus they are not the only ones having died today.

    just my 2 euro-cents...

    Moron.

I really do not know how people could think there could be survivors, they were traveling at Mach 17.

It's not looking too good, there may not even be any survivors. It must really suck to be one of them right now.

Well there goes out diplomatic realtions with Isreal.

    Annoying.

Let's be oblivious to the long-term effects of the "tragedy" you mock.

I'd like to say something based on a few posts on a now locked topic.

    On 2003-02-01 13:34,
that is tragic news but i kinda agree with phalanx in a way not on this new shuttle crashing but after 911 i heard so much about it i just got sick of it and wish people would shutup now that this shuttle has crashed we will hear a lot about to

it is sad news both but when people talk about it so much i just get sick of it
I really can't stand this. You're sick of it? I'd like to hear any of you say that if YOUR family or friends were killed in the WTC or the Columbia. Lives are lives, no matter how many die. Do you know HOW many people were killed by Hitler in his camps? Do you think the Jewish people got sick of hearing that their people were dying? I'm disgusted to be reading this.

    Long Term affects?

Some people died, thier families will grieve, Isreal will hate us, and our space program will be scrared for a little bit.

    Total recovery time: 5 months.

    Possible long-term affects:
A piece of debris could kill a cow. (that cow will never come back)
A piece of debris could kill a person (highly unlikely since there is nothing in Palesitne)
A piece of debris could fall and start a fire. (Since there is a lot of dead grass out there)

Now these have a snowballs chance in hell of happening:
The space program will fail causing the US economy to collapse and forcing us to lose our place as the world's greatest civilization.

Isreal could get really pissed off and starts shooting missles at us forcing us to kick their ass thus losing our only middle-eastern ally.

Us kicking Isreal's ass will cause a full scale nuclear war between various countries on the planet thus causing everyone to die from nuclear fallout.

Seriously thought folks, this is truly a sad thing. People dying not matter how many or how little is just not cool.

Note to Vocal: Since you still have some kind of problem with me, consult me via PM's. I'll be happy to own your ass there.
