umm japan got the famitsu magazine how come we didn't get anything similar to them...

Theres supposedly an EGM magazine in data though, and 1up owns (or rather is part of?) EGM to my understanding.

while we're on the subject, did the JP get the song for death? i think we got the exclusively (correct me if i'm wrong) but don't expect to see completely identical rewards from special occasions like the 1up cup and famitsu.

Yes JP got Song For Death. The top 100 in the leader boards in the 5 weeks of famitsu got one. I beleive a grand total of 500 were given out.

Song For Death was given out to the top 100 timeattack parties in Famitsu Cup, so as many as 400 (per world) were given out.

It was a wand, if I recall correctly. You can check the PSOW database if you want, it should be on there.

If I remember correctly the Maximum Attack event we got on the Dreamcast was sponsored by EGM so maybe we have a chance of getting it when we eventually get the new Maximum Attack event.
