I think people use the voting thing on threads like Arika's events and whatnot.
Nothing more. It's useless IMO.
Also, a "very popular" thread is like 10+ pages, maybe more.
I think this thread should just die out, there are others that provide more info.

It's between me, my two best buds, an 3 other of my friends. They actually like it more than WoW, Aion, and Everquest 2. Yes they still play EQ2.

I have it, my wife has a psp and a copy, and one of my old PSO buddies got it on psp. We all ad-hoc together whenever he visits. It's a great game looks and plays better than the ps2 version.
