I don't know. Nintendo pretty much wrote themselves a blank check with the DS, and this is where they decided to go next.

I think it might be kind of cool, maybe. For simple looking games like the Pokemon DS ones. Adding a feeling of depth to that art style might look pretty cool. Don't know how it'd work out in other games with actual 3D models though. Guess we'll see.

Since it's the successor I will buy it. My DS is my most used console [If you can all it that.] and it's GBA slot is fading.

Going to need more than Pokemon to grab my interest this time around. Haven't touched my DS Lite in ages. That and the constant DS hardware revisions have me wary of buying one out of the gate even if it does interest me.

It's so weird, I just had a conversation with one of my friends about how Nintendo had essentially developed themselves into a corner with the DS. I love the DS, but in my mind I didn't see how a successor would work with BOTH backwards compatibility and innovation.

Guess I was proven wrong, I'm definitely looking forward to this. Say what you will about Nintendo's console, but the fact remains that my favorite gaming system of this generation is the DS. It just does everything right.

So the PS3 does everything, but the DS does everything right?

NEWS UPDATE - So I guess the 3DS is further along than I initially thought. Nintendo is saying that they'll have the system playable in time for E3 in June. That's definitely more than just the promo vid that I was expecting.

And didn't Nintendo say last E3 that they were done with their next handheld, just didn't want to show it yet? PR bull, maybe?

omg this system sounds incredible i just hope they dont overuse the 3d thing cuz i dont want them ruining my handheld Zelda like they did with the stylus. think about playing 3d zelda games like oot and majora's mask or windwaker on a handheld, the the above view 3d and stylus controls just didn't work for me in phantom hourglass and i never got spirit tracks. (if they rm majoras mask and oot on a singular 3ds cardtridge or disk (whatever it uses) i would freak out!) (i cant wait for the e3 reveal!)
