If you find a post useful, it would just be best to quote a portion of it and thank the person for it. That would be more meaningful than an informal "Thank You" button.

In any case, please not do the same kind of reputation system as official forum.
it is a failure and already get removed there. ..see how jerk usually get 100x of positive reputation there than people who do post useful thing.
Hey, I had like 10 bars over there, and I'm not a jerk.
it should be a "Like" button like facebook. some one makes a status update but you dont want to comment so you jsut click like.
You definitely don't want any kind of reputation system, trust me..
Reputation systems are a pain in the ass. My forum had one once, and members that were kinda unliked by a select few got -371 rep (literally), and the said few positive repped themselves up to a similar number.
This spawned multiple debates and threads about trying to change or get rid of the system, causing massive amounts of drama.
Finally, we settled on the rep system not showing any possitive or negative scores, and just showing comments.
So, in a sense, it became just like the Profile Comments.
Since Profile Comments are already a valid means of communication here, anything additional would be redundant.
The very existance of the Fresh Kills Landfill and Dead Horse Society make it obvious that the members who spend the majority of their time in those forums will likely take advantage of a rep system for the worse
