Just because you don't get an answer between two morning hours doesn't mean no one's playing, it just means you were on at a bad time and got impatient for an answer... <.<
Anyways, I recommend a CAST, preferably a Caseal, if not for the fact that human rangers are far too squishy to take pretty much anything in SH, and they aren't strong enough to deal any kind of significant damage to anything really, outside of a few areas where enemies aren't as resistant to ranged, which doesn't outnumber the number of enemies that resist them overall... I dunno, CASTs are just pretty much better rangers overall than them I just can't bear to use the humans. I tried a RAmar for the longest time, but he just kept dying too much, and couldn't kill shit that I got rid of him for a RAcaseal. :/
I think the point of Human Rangers in PSZero is to challenge you, personally...But I'm also resistant to trying a CAST Race if it can't cast techs. I've never been successful as a techless CAST; I had a guntecher in PSU. My playstyle is enjoy the character. Some people enjoy RAcast and RAcaseal, but feel bored and/or annoyed with RAmar/RAmarls performance. I just enjoy what I can.
In the end, since your savefile's gone, try both and keep the one you like more. Recreate the other for another char, maybe.
I have played as all four ranger classes at some point in my PSZ career. I have found them more difficult to play than the hunter and force classes. With a ranger, you'll find yourself doing the best in a full party than going alone where it takes a lot longer to kill everything. With the human rangers, you can fill a niche by casting Zalure and Jellen debuff techs with them (I've played this game often to know that people that have debuffs rarely ever use them). With the cast rangers, you have traps at your disposal. I find the heat traps useful for chipping away HP of some big enemy by inflicting heat on them and the heal traps are nice for reviving allies (not to mention, it's always the last thing on the item list so you can hit L+start and use one from the menu without problems) and if you put one up before your death and you're out of scape dolls, the traps will revive you as well.
If you haven't played the game enough, I would recommend a cast ranger before doing a human ranger. The cast rangers are less squishy and a bit stronger than the human rangers and have a better selection of melee weapons to equip. There are a large number of bullet resistant foes on SH in this game and most ranger players get around that by using melee weapons.
Add-on: From what I gather looking at the cast and human ranger weapons, the casts get a better selection of claws and shields at their disposal so that part might be a exaggerated a bit. I found the shields that grant Bull Smash for the PA to quite useful with a cast ranger and the human rangers gets mostly shields with Barrier Shift (not a particular fan of this). Most of the claws have Slide End. It's a decent PA but not quite boss friendly.

Heck Yeah Go RAmar nothing else
WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!! ENOUGH WITH THE DAMN OPINIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE DOSNT WANT YOUR OPINION ON WHICH IS BETTER!!!!!!!!!! DONT CHOOSE EITHER WITHOUT FIRST LOOKING AT THE VITAL STATISTICS OF BOTH!!!!!
RAmar: RAmars are good for beginners, as are all Human classes. RAmars have decent ATA, and some good EVP, as can be expected from a RA. They can also use magic to boost themselves and do some extra damage. However, with them being so balanced, it is hard to be effective in any of the paths you can take unless you really focus on boosts through mags, mats, and items. They have access to some pretty damn good RA weapons, and can become pretty powerful in the end.
RAcast: RAcasts are more for moderate players who know what to expect from PSZ. Unlike RAmars, they arent balanced and give away ATP and DFP in exchange for really good ATA and some nice EVP. They have access to the best RA weapons in the game and are naturally resilient as they are CASTs. They can use traps, which isnt as good as it should be, although freeze traps and heal traps are pretty nice (freeze traps do just that and heal traps can resurrect fallen party members), and they have natural trap vision (also not as good as it should be but still pretty nice). As CASTs, they cannot use magic, but their higher stats remove the need for it.
RAmar Summary:
Pros:
-Balanced
-Can use magic
-Easy to play
Cons:
-Unspecialized
-Magic is rather weak
-Makes sacrifices for balance.
RAcast Summary:
Pros:
-High ATA and EVP
-Access to best RA weapons
-Trap Vision/Trap use
Cons:
-Lower DFP
-No magic
-Less flexible with stat modifiers
All in all:
RAmars are for you if you want an easy-to-play character that can use some magic and is able to handle bad stat builds due to their balanced stat layout. Main thing: Balance
RAcasts are for you if you really want to be a RA, and know what to work for when building up this class, And dont mind the sacrifice in ATP and DFP in exchange for higher stats that are geared toward the RA. Main Thing: Specialist
I hope this little guide helps you make your choice!
(I am so sick of people giving their OPINIONS on which class to play when someone asks for help like this. I dont care if something is you "favorite class" it may end up sucking for the person who wants help. They want to know which would be better for THEM, not which one YOU want. If that was the case, they would have made a "whats your fav class?" thread. If you have no clue what you are weighing a class against, dont give these people your "help" because its not helping.)
