I mostly wanted to comment: THE PIXIES!! THE PIXIES!!!

I just found out that they got back together, all the orginals and they are touring! TOURING! I'll give you links:

One of the best 80s bands, they influenced a lot of the greats including Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl from Nirvana (Grohl later going to Foo Fighters obviously) and pratically every other emo/punk/alternative was influenced by the Pixie's work.

it's interesting that you mentioned that, a lot of alternative rock is going back to the 80s for inspiration.

Examples: The Rapture, Interpol, Yea yea yeas, Stellastar, British Sea Power, Postal Service, Hot hot heat, Libertines, No Doubt, Ryan Adams, Moby... you can hear a lot 80s inpiration in their music...

Radiohead has been a favourite of mine. I've heard some of the pixies stuff and found it quite okay (if not different). Chilli Peppers older stuff was fantastic.
