What the fuck is everyones moronic obsession with this stupid word?
On xbox live, you join a game, "sup".
How the hell is anyone supposed to respond to that?
Honestly, why do people say this, it's almost impossible to respond to without feeling like an idiot.
Ugh, sorry for the stupid rant but this is really bugging the hell out of me.

    ...Hey? Hi? Yo!

Seriously, it's a greeting. Greet them back.

It's just the fact that it's a shortend "what's up?" which isn't really a greeting.
No matter what it is though, it just makes me fell hella awkward.

Don't worry, SJ, it's the debased form of English known as "gruntish" or "chavese". Learn to answer it with a simple "meh" or something that sounds like a grunt when you say it out loud.

What's Up = How are things going/Whats happening with you at the minute.

Seems like a nice greeting to me, maybe could use a 'Hi' in front of it, but it seems to do the job.

Its just a casual form of talking. You would probably think they were a total ass if they suddenly came in and said 'Greetings sir, and how are you today?'.

Definately not Chav-ish, all you normally get from them is that horrible nasal 'Awwwe' noise.

    "Nothing much."

Really. It's not that difficult to form up a response.

I prefer to ask "Whar's poppin'?" anyways.

    Whar? Really?

I usually just got with "Yo." or "y halo thar".

Well, I don't see why. It's a word equivalent to "hi", "hey", "yo". But if it makes you awkward, answer back the same word.

Normally they don't expect you to immediatly reply "NOFN", it's just a free polite greeting, kinda guetto-style.

hm... I thought I was the only person who despised that "greeting"... When someone greets me with "sup" on PSO... I dont know... I feel a strange urge to leave right at that instant... It gets under my skin in ways that it probably shouldn't... Perhaps this is because when the term first surfaced, it put me in one or two awkward middle-school situations... But even when I first heard the word, I thought it to be very ... stupid, unsettling, annoying, imposing... =| How is it that a simple slang greeting can be so offensive? I have no idea... It just is...
