You'd need at least a "Hello" to bid any farewells as far as "science" part is concerned in Phantasy Star series. But at this point, it's a tradition to pronounce PSO dead any time the newest game gets an update.
The only good ending for this is everyone dies in the end.

I finally did the start of episode 4 a few days ago, to unlock Tokyo.
I couldn't help but laugh at how silly it is. It was very, very cringeworthy.
Not only in terms of story, but also how often and long Hitugi talks to herself.
Feels like very poor delivery. They're trying to convey the setting through her monologue. Probably the most boring possible method.
I guess you could say the story concept is unique, but there's probably a good reason why it hasn't been done before.

The funniest moment was when Aru rejected all the name ideas of Hitsugi.
Or when she just noticed that a naked blond guy had appeared on her bed.

He does, a bit. Though he resembles Matoi in a number of ways, mysteriously appearing out of nowhere, being obviously connected to whatever the current big bad is, etc.
Wonder if Hitsugi has played episode 1 to see the connection.
