People could use more laser shields or laser deflecting shields.

Know what else you could do in Crystalis, ride a dolphin. Years before Ecco the dolphin and making a whole game about a dolphin seem kinda wack by comparison. Prob. was a lot of flashy frames in that part though, riding him among the whirlpools and waterfalls.

Frame skip on an emulator might improve the game a bit in that respect... maybe.

It was that guy, who you shoot with the bow, and he turns into this big ugly green thing with a chest-eye.
Turns out you didn't do enough damage to hurt him without the power ring, and apparently a max charge lightning sword.

Yeah remember trying to hit him with all the swords and their charge powers, and he just wasn't affected and all you heard was the clink SFX instead of the hit for damage one. He wasn't budging much besides the tornado that covered the screen to push him back half the room/screen.

One of the only places to use that not oft used lightning sword.

Wind, Water/Ice, and Fire got more precedence.

Think G4 did a video walkthrough of such a brothel mode of a similar game. More awkward than anything else though. One of the few things I've seen on that channel. Early on past release PSU Strategy 30 min (CHEATS or more like walkthru-s) show was fun. What with having the host person have to say "Onmagoug" repeatedly *. The protip was the ingame NPC party member advice as well, "Attack it from behind!" "Hit its tail, run away!" "He throws rocks and sometimes if you're lucky, Koltova cows!"

* GG too literal and not memorable, run of the mill, PSU enemy names translation. Except Onmagoug or other lesser ridiculous named bosses.

The significance? Never before has there been an NPC that sells Mana Potions, and Pierrick sells them in incriments of 1 at a time, and it is possible for him to sell out.
He also sells Ancient Magic powders randomly, like edern's advanced weapon tab, and when he is selling them, you better snatch them up quick because there will be somebody changing to your channel to buy them all before anyone else, because the ancient magic powders are the best enchanting powders of the 5, but be prepared to spend some money because they are 5k each but so worth it.
He appears randomly in the logging camp, but every hour in real time and he is the only NPC that skips, and saunters to where he wants to go.
Note, also spawns with his own herd of animals.

Oh, I found it that way. If I had a metal dye I would test it for you.
I got lucky on the price too, I only ended up paying 300k for it.
I can't figure out if it was blacksmithed though, it has 16 durability, and wiki lists them as haveing 15 base durability.
So I don't know if it was a drop, or a smith. Wiki sometimes lies about that anyway.

Despite it taking forever(like 3 hours), and dying quite alot. (maybe 10 times out of the whole dungeon, 3~4 times on each floor, typically because we were almost always in deadly.) it wasn't too bad.
I do hate that we didn't get anything good from end chests.

I can see myself running this more often. Maybe with more people.

If you're to the point where you don't think you can level your character level anymore, it might be wise to look into level your exploration level.
It's a nice and easy way to squeeze 20 AP or so out of just exploring Cor for artifacts and restoring/appraising them at Voight.
Makes people alot of money doing that too. There is fossil restoration as well....but that is just rage inducing unless you have a cleaning macro.

Reminds of the GC Harvest Moon, one town chicksa is into fossils only. You can marry her if you get X amount of fossils. And fossil hunting in that one cave takes all day and you can't do anything else.

Elf/Giant transforms are significantly easier to come by. Theres like... one difficult dungeon in Karu, and that's it. The rest is patience in collecting the various seals or whatever.

Well...I just finished reading through all 540 pages (10 posts per page, didn't feel like changing it)...in 2 days...this is a VERY epic thread...though it was much funnier at the beginning...I'm also surprised that only once did someone mention the "cat is fine too" meme...kinda made me sad...

This game (Mabinogi) sounds very interesting, so I'm gonna get it soon (tuesday at earliest) and I was looking for some pointers/help...anybody? What exactly do you have to pay for because I'm very low on funds basically always...so I'd like to know to what I could do...I also got a friend who is gonna make a support character specifically for me (woot!).

Another thing that's interesting is the jobs (don't know what they are actually called) like blacksmithing, weaving, etc. Can you have multiple or something? I think somewhere someone said something about a similarity to Runescape...so I guess that means you just do whichever you feel like doing? And the rank things, is it like you start one and higher numbers are better or rank 1 is the best?

1-You can learn every skill in the game, all the way, assuming you have the time to train them all.
2-Technically you don't have to pay for anything. (I've yet to spend anything) The absolute most useful thing you can buy... probably a pet or two. Won't speak about services, due to some notice about change.

3-Gameplay is not turn-based in any way. You need to pay attention, or you will die.
4-You cannot afford to take hits. Period. Main defensive skills are Defend (Duh), Counterattack, and Windmill (AoE knockback, keeps things from getting in range).

Screw numbering. For the most part, you can't fight more than one enemy at a time. Some enemies will gang up on you, though. This is painful. You may wish to run if you can.

A few (very) useful combat tips:
N+1:Most weapons can combo for more than they say. After your first hit, if you pause, you can then perform a full combo after it, giving you more hits than you would otherwise. This is important, because a full combo will knock the enemy back. If you press the attack and the enemy uses attack, you'll be the one hit. If you can't kill with one attack combo, you'll need to start getting defensive...
Counterattack:Use this after your combo. If the enemy starts loading a defensive skill, you can cancel this and use the appropriate counter. (Use smash against defending monsters and windmill/magic/arrows for counterattack. Enemies can counter your defense this way, so pay attention)
Magic Counter:Basically, you alternate counterattack and a bolt spell, generall y fire or ice, to stun the enemy while you reload counter. You should start casting the bolt as soon as counter's icon vanishes. Most fights you can probably win with this.
Counter>Defend>Combo:Learning bolt spells requires buying spellbooks, which is expensive early on. (There is a class in Tir Chonaill that gives firebolt's book, but its not cheaper that way, you just end up with some extra stats) If you can't magic counter, you can load defend after counter. Once you're attacked, just hit the enemy with an attack combo. If you regular attack a defending enemy, you will be flinched the same way, and get hurt badly.
Windmill:Windmill is one of the (relatively) few area skills in the game. Its general use is to knock away attacking enemies. You cannot use it if nothing is in range. Some enemies are too fast to catch in low level windmill before they attack (Lag will kill you). Also used in skill combos. (I usually am using magic counters myself though)

When you make your first character, I'm not sure if you have to choose human anymore. If not, go human anyways because humans can get one free character card for both elf and giant for allying with the race. (You can ally with elves, then cancel it the next day and go to giants, or vice versa, to get both) Elves should avoid the giant village and vice versa. The NPC guards will kill you on sight. (Same goes for allied humans)

AP is gained by leveling and aging. Rebirthing a character resets levels (And stats from level up-but not skills), meaning more AP for skills. You can rebirth for free at age 20. (Characters age one year every Saturday at noon Pacific) Highest rebirthable age is 17, so that's one free rebirth every three weeks on each character. (Not too bad, if you've got a human and an elf and a giant) Because rebirthing means you have effectively unlimited AP, you do not need more than one character of a given race.

Windmill should be leveled sooner rather than later, because a number of the xp requirements for it involve enemy strength relative to yours. The weaker you are, the easier it is to level.

One last thing. Don't fret about how expensive armor is. It doesn't help a lot by itself. (1 defense=-1 damage per hit. 1 protection=-1%. Its more important to just avoid being hit)

Well I played Mabinogi today...I LOVE it. The combat is weird, which is mostly why I like it. My computer lagged a bit when it was starting the beginning cutscene but other than that it was great, even though everytime I start the game, it brings up a message saying my graphics card isn't good enough or something. I don't see any problems though so I'm not gonna worry about it.
I got to level 9...not much but it feels like an accomplishment to me ^.^ My friend dueled me when I just started and didn't quite understand the combat system, but I still beat him...without even getting hit lol. He started blaming the computer...lol though I did kill him in a single combo...I think he was like level 4 and I was 3...
I found out the hard way red spiders are mean to noobs...T.T first death...second I was fighting a bunch of grey wolves...they aren't too hard so I let my guard down...BIG mistake...well, not big, but still, dying isn't fun...
I am definitely gonna be playing this game for a while...

:disapprove: i spent about 3 weeks on that quest, not really bothering to do it, and once i had pets i learned that Pet-Smash-Spam worked like a charm.
i skipped a GM hunt (my guild won 2nd place) trying to complete that in a ciar that Someone else created which ended up not working out for me in the end.

To be honest i serious considered skipping G1. I just finished some Succubus plot i forget my current quest.

Nice. That robe is rather nice looking. (One of the very few I'd ever consider using, along with Lava Cat, and maybe one or two others)

Does anyone know how to fix my problem? It keeps asking me to cancel compatability mode on the computer to play Mabi, but when I click compatability troubleshooting, it doesn't help at all. I didn't have any problems installing it on my computer, but it apparently doesn't like my sister's laptop. The weird thing is that the first night I tried it worked fine. I logged out so she could make an account and it stopped working.

Windmill is a very good skill, but even I can't stand doing it past rank 4. Even with raccoon cub. It has a total of 123.00 proficiency or so for perfect training, and of that, it's like... 5000 strong kills, 4000 very strong kills, 2000 boss kills, 40 multiple strong hits, 30 multiple strong kills.

Well, I'm ready to abandon all hope at 9... though 5 might eventually be nice for range. Its... annoying.

Probably going to get firebolt to 9 next on my human for fire counters... but then... no clue what I should raise.

Oh, definitely go to 5 on mill if at all possible. It becomes MUCH more useful at that rank, both for the extra damage, range, and stat boosts. Comparing it to anything lower than 5 makes those ranks feel sad and weak. I can only imagine what r1 is like. I don't have the patience for that.

Notably, I'm almost at rank 1 counter, my critical hit is around rank 4, melee and range are both at 1, defense is rank 3, so on and so forth.

The other thing... I wish human exploration cap quests weren't all marathon affairs. I'd have a fair amount more AP to spend then... because I'd actually bother to level it.

What sucks, is my human is at 30, so slower leveling. Elf could level... but buggy ranged attack makes it too damned easy to die. (Sitting with arrow loaded at 80% for the whole 3 seconds it takes the enemy to reach me and unable to fire pisses me off)... Giant is just... weak. And... kind of boring to play, since humans are kind of melee-by-default.

Elf AP costs annoy me too. Penalized in the areas they're good at, while giants have the same AP costs in melee as humans.

I like how elves look, but I hate relying on something that can miss so easily and leave you open to death. It's fine if you can kite the monster, but otherwise, doom.

Generally I rebirth whenever I need more AP.

I've been leveling my giant abit, managed to get Rank3 production mastery, and in the time it took to get that, from rank 7, i managed to barely get 1 metallurgy rank(D can be upgraded) all the while i used up all my Ap :|

Well, I only work part-time, due to classes, etc. And then I throw most of that money into tuition. I think I acutally keep around $80/month total at most... and now I realize that most of that is just accumulating. Maybe I'll crack sooner than I thought. Still would be on a mount or something most likely, though.

How hard is G2? Started on it earlier, than just gave up on the first Barri cause lag was letting Goblin Archers decimate me. Really hard to win when lagspikes prevent me from even chasing them.

Edit:Why rank production mastery to 3? No way you need that much stamina...

I have production mastery at rank 1. It helps whenever you need to make something, mine something, or otherwise do anything crafty with a percentage chance. The extra stamina is nice, and my swords even give me another 80 total on top of that.

I find it easier to shoot from a mount on my elf(if you miss you have a faster escape and have more distance to reload an arrow), or just have a pet out if I'm going to be ranging from the ground, so if I miss, just shift+click the thing running after me, and the pet smacks him, then reload magnum and try to knock it back.
Rinse repeat until said thing is dead...it's not too hard if you can hit pretty hard. It's one reason why I'm ranking Magnum Shot first of my ranged skills.

Easiest: Thunder
Most Useful: Tossup between Thunder and Ice Spear.
Ice spear is pretty much boss for anything that .. uh isn't a boss(and even then it might work well, when we get the blaze skill, IS->Blaze is one of the most broken things out yet).
And Thunder works well for pretty much everythign else, as long as it's mana deflector allows damage to still be done...if it doesn't have mana deflector, high ranked thunder will decimate it.

Fireball is good if you want to just skip a room, charge it up on a chest, open chest, mobs spawn, cast to the center of the room, walk to next room, rinse repeat.

Though fireball is arguably the most expensive now.
