If you're a Shining Force fan like myself, you might have been slightly disappointed at Shining Soul. Fear not, for it seems as if the US version of the GBA port of Shining Force I is set to be released sometime in June-July of this year.

It seems to be much more than a graphical overhaul, with new characters, battles, and even a different equipment system! Definitely worth a look or two

    Screenshots are available.

Eww, I don't like any of the new character portraits at all. Oh well, I'll definitely still pick this up. It seems the only GBA games worth owning these days are the remakes. -_-

The new character, Mawlock, sounds interesting. Using collectable "Cards" during combat. I wonder where SEGA got this idea from. >_>

Anyway, everything sounds good. About the only addition I could hope for is that Tao and Anri's "bikini" outfits are now visable during battle animation. XD

Hey, the remake of SF1 looks pretty good. I can't wait until it's released in the UK. Maybe Sega can manage the Shining Force series without Camelot after all.

Wonder if Sega will do a remake of SF2 on GBA next...?

Same here. I reckon that Shining Force 3 is the best game in the series. It's a shame that Sega didn't bother translating the remaining Scenarios into English...

If you're interested, there's translated scripts of Scenario's 2 and 3 in the website that Mixfortune posted here.

Looks nice to me. I never had the opertunity to play this game since I didn't have a Genesis (nope, I had a SNES) and now I can finally play it. I was very interested in this game when I read about it in EGM's 100 Greatest Games of All Time. W00t.

Yeah some of the character portraits are disturbing, but that may be due partly to nostalgia. Some of them, like Mae, Tao, and Anri, don't look half bad.

Heheh to the bikini outfits. Maybe they'll add more for Khris, Alef, etc. etc, although that might be a tad scary. But considering that there are now 4 equip slots and 4 item slots per character, there may be more alternate costumes available for many of the characters. That would be pretty awesome o_o.

Hopefully some of the other US version nonusable items from the original like the Teppou will have some uses, but I'm not all too worried about that since they seem to be adding a bunch of new stuff in general.

I still wish for a true multiplayer (closest I get is debug mode in Shining Force II) so that either one person could control the enemies, or both people could battle it out Force to Force. I can hope
