Phantasy Star borrows heavily from mythology - Megid in particular does indeed seem to refer to a hill in Israel that is said to be where God and Satan will battle before the end of the world. So it is, as mentioned earlier, a reference to Armageddon. Greek is also a common source of the series' nomenclature. No more or less complicated than that.

Huge Persona series fan. Particularly Persona 4 on PS2. I completely understand what you are saying. Force myself. Loved Megid the moment I cast my first black ball of death. I also felt the similarity right away.. lol Couldn't pin point it right away though.

    ...maybe.
This is right. Har is Mountain in Hebrew. It's referring to the (I think Christian) lore about the end of the world brought on by a battle on Mount Megiddo? Something like that.

Fun Fact! The mountain is in Israel and it's where the IDF(Israeli Defense Force) takes outings to train it's special forces(Specifically in Krav Maga).

So it seems I'm not the only one tripping up on the whole Megid(o) business. Mainly the whole romanticizing things as it is spelt out the exact same way.

Demons and Hell? Not very Phantasy Star-esque.

Demons and Hell were both from PSO (Demons quartered an enemy's HP and Hell was an instant-kill status).

I do wish Megid had instant-kill chance in PSO2 though (provided enemies could use it too), but a homing poison-bomb is good enough

Just my two cents in the whole spell-naming sense : Foie, as written in Japanese (フォイェ) is pronounced just like Foyer, which is French for Hearth. And now you know how it relates to fire.
Gardios might be onto something with Grants/Glanz.
And obviously, the whole Megid(do) case is now solved.
Barta, Zonde and Zan are the only remaining mysteries.

I thought Foi(e) was for german Feuer (fire).
Ryuker -> Rückkehr, Hinas -> hinaus
I think many of the PS2 spells were from german anyway.
Somehow for zan I see 斬 as it litteraly cuts the ennemy (esp gizan), but maybe it's just me.
